All about empathy in uncategorized july 24th 2010 what contributes more to creating a persons identity ie personality behavior intelligence is it genetics or is it the environment in which the person was raised in other words as francis galton might ask is it nature or nurture. Empathy is the life giving fuel that umbrellas all of these children are hard wired for empathy but like any of our very human qualities it needs to be gently brought to life as the important adults in their lives and their very loving support crew we are in a prime position to nurture and develop empathy and emotional wisdom in our children. Tied in to ekmans three types of empathy students would identify and discuss 1 the environmental problem cognitive empathy 2 why a character would be upset by the environmental problem emotional empathy and 3 how the character tries to solve the environmental problem compassionate empathy ie environmental empathy in action. Best answer whilst there is an innate capacity for empathy it is argued that it is almost entirely fostered by nurture because for the extremely rare instances of infants who have been bought up with no human contact whatever either raised by animals or in horrendous orphanages where no contact has been given are completely incapable of any form of empathy and sadly are utterly . But they would not have been as native to empathy as nurture empathy is that part of the vulnerable human in me that sees recognizes sense feels the vulnerable human in the person who stands before me my reader s given the fragile and tender nature of empathy it requires the strength that nurturing brings in order for it to develop
